"Life" hacking/modding/kludging/etc.

Post by Prak »

So, while I'm too broke and unmotivated/skilled to actually undertake many projects that I see online and think "Oh hey, that'd be cool," I do find a lot of them, and occasionally do some when I've gotten fed up with a situation and decided to finally fix it.

between Lifehacker, Ikea Hacker, "Life hacking" threads on 4chan, PC Case modding, and random shit I've done, I've started wondering what other people have come up with.

I just kludged together some straps to keep a previous kludge together- I use a comforter as a cushion on my chair at my desk, and it's been bugging me recently because it keeps moving, so I used a few lanyards and a few other things I had lying around to strap it down.

This is literally the most productive thing I've done since my last cooking class ended in may.

I use a broken laptop holder as a stand for my Korg NanoPad and NanoKontrol. Made my own speaker decouplers for my studio monitors, and for a headphone stand I have a bust of Julius Caesar. That's the desk, I'm sure I've done other mod/hack type things. But I'm not a huge gearhead, so maybe not.

Here's a life-hacking tip:

Don't call it life hacking or modding. Hell, don't try to shoehorn in a hip new name in a laughable attempt to forge a connection to your pathetic computer hobby to something practical. By the by, 'lifehacking' already has an established name to refer to the activity.. It's called DIY/self-help depending on what exactly you want to do.

Seriously, you may as well be saying sheeple or tween or 'Chrono Cross was a fresh take on an existing franchise' for all of the dignity you'll be preserving. :hatin:

In short, your entire post is dismissive of not merely my intelligence, but my agency. And I don't mean agency as a player within one of your games, I mean my agency as a person. Lago, I'm just using the terms I've seen other people using.
